Mumbai (Maharashtra), April 18– Veteran actor Anupam Kher has announced his return to the director’s chair with his upcoming film ‘Tanvi The Great’, marking his second directorial venture after a gap of 23 years. His first film as a director was Om Jai Jagdish, released in 2002.
Taking to Instagram, Kher shared a photo of himself proudly wearing a “Director” t-shirt, symbolizing his re-entry into filmmaking. In the caption, the Saaransh actor reflected on his filmmaking journey:
“It took me 23 years to wear a #Director t-shirt again! I loved directing Om Jai Jagdish. The ability I had. I made the film accordingly. But the story of that movie wasn’t mine.”
This time, however, the story is deeply personal.
“Tanvi The Great is out of my heart and soul. And then life has taught a lot in the last 23 years. Now I’ll keep telling you Tanvi-related stories until the film releases. Don’t be bothered — this is marketing and love too! Jai Ho,” he added.
The film features music by Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani and is produced in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). It will also feature sound design by Academy Award-winner Resul Pookutty, known for Slumdog Millionaire.
In an earlier interview with ANI, Kher shared the behind-the-scenes struggles of funding the film:
“I did not go to any studio to ask for funds. I didn’t look for a financier. Whoever has financed the film in the beginning… you’ll gradually get to know these stories. It hasn’t been an easy task. But because the theme is about resilience, struggle, and courage, I had to show that same courage as a producer and director.”
Adding a global flair, Tanvi The Great will also star Iain Glen, known internationally for his role as Ser Jorah Mormont in Game of Thrones.
