JAMMU — In a tragic event following a previous cloudburst in Kishtwar district, a new cloudburst has claimed four lives and injured six others in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred in the remote village of Jod Ghati in the Rajbagh area during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, triggered by intense overnight rainfall.
The sudden cloudburst severed access to the remote village and caused significant damage to land and property. Officials said a joint team of the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local volunteers, immediately launched a rescue operation. So far, four bodies have been recovered, and six injured individuals have been rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The heavy rains have also caused landslides in other areas of the Kathua district, including Bagard, Changda, and Dilwan-Hutli, though no major damage has been reported from these sites. The Ujh river is flowing close to the danger mark, and the district administration has urged residents to stay away from water bodies for their safety.
This tragic event comes just days after a massive cloudburst in the Kishtwar district on Thursday killed at least 60 people and injured over 100. The repeated incidents of cloudbursts and landslides have put the entire region on high alert.
