Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: The much-loved 1993 Japanese-Indian anime film Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama is set to return to the big screen in a 4K remastered version. Fans across India can watch the classic adaptation in theatres starting January 24, 2025.

The announcement was made on Instagram by the film’s makers, accompanied by a caption:
“The wait is over! Experience India’s greatest epic in all its glory! Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama releasing on January 24, 2025, in Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu. An unmissable 4K experience awaits!”
The 4K remaster promises enhanced visuals and upgraded audio for a richer cinematic experience. For the first time, the film will be available in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, alongside its original English version.
Veteran screenwriter Shri V. Vijayendra Prasad, known for his work on blockbusters like Baahubali and RRR, has overseen the creative adaptation of the new versions. Prasad’s involvement ensures that the film remains true to its roots while appealing to contemporary audiences.
Fans can look forward to the trailer, which is set to release on January 10.
Originally slated for an October 18, 2024, release, the remastered version was postponed to broaden its reach across the country. Geek Pictures India, the distributor of the film in collaboration with AA Films and Excel Entertainment, shared a heartfelt message explaining the decision:
“Geek Pictures extends its heartfelt gratitude to the people of India for the overwhelming love and encouragement shown for Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama. In response to the incredible enthusiasm from fans nationwide, we have decided to adjust the film’s release date to ensure this iconic masterpiece reaches every corner of our vast country.”
The animated film, fondly remembered as the “Cartoon Network Ramayana” by many, originally premiered at the International Film Festival of India in 1993 and has since been showcased on various broadcast platforms.
