Indian businessman and philanthropist Anand Mahindra has praised Coldplay’s mesmerizing performance in Ahmedabad on January 26. Sharing a captivating video from the event on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Mahindra highlighted the magical atmosphere created at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where the lights twinkled like stars, adding to the festive vibe. He wrote, “The moment when the world discovered that India is the new frontier of live entertainment… Coldplay. Ahmedabad.”
The concert, which marked Coldplay’s first-ever performance in Gujarat, followed a successful show in Mumbai. Lead vocalist Chris Martin and his bandmates captivated the audience with their musical brilliance, with Martin even greeting fans in Gujarati: “Tame logo aaje badha sundar laago cho. Hu tamare shahar ma aavyo chu. Kem cho Ahmedabad?” (You all look very beautiful today. I am in your city. How are you, Ahmedabad?). His gesture was met with thunderous applause.
The highlight of the night came during “A Sky Full of Stars,” when the stadium transformed into a galaxy of twinkling lights, with fireworks adding to the spectacle. Martin encouraged the crowd to put their phones away and immerse themselves fully in the experience, leading to an unforgettable sing-along moment.
Coldplay’s performance also included a heartfelt tribute to India on Republic Day, with Martin singing iconic patriotic songs like “Vande Mataram” and “Maa Tujhhe Salaam,” further endearing the band to the crowd.
In a fun moment, Martin dedicated a song to Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah, joking, “O Jasprit Bumrah, my beautiful brother. The best bowler in the whole of cricket.”
The concert, part of Coldplay’s India tour organized by BookMyShow Live, ended with a live stream of the final show on Disney+ Hotstar, allowing fans across the country to experience the magic.
