Amritsar Temple Attack: Two Suspects Identified, Investigation Underway

Amritsar (Punjab) [India]: A forensic team conducted an investigation at the Thakurdwara Temple in Khandwala, Amritsar, after a grenade attack took place late Friday night.

According to CCTV footage, two motorcycle-borne masked men were seen throwing a suspected explosive towards the temple shortly after midnight. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Police personnel swiftly reached the scene and launched an investigation.

Harvinder Singh Randhawa, a BJP member, condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for urgent action:

“Every community member is present here. Even though no life was lost, an atmosphere of terror is being created in Amritsar. We have given an ultimatum of 72 hours — if action is not taken, we will shut down the whole city.”

BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab:

“Ever since Aam Aadmi Party’s government came to power, law and order has become terrible… These grenade attacks have been happening in a chained way, even targeting police stations. Meanwhile, the police are occupied with the protection of Arvind Kejriwal.”

Punjab Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal confirmed that two suspects had been identified in connection with the incident and assured swift action:

“There were some miscreants who hurled a grenade at a temple after midnight. There are no injuries or casualties… The situation is under control. The police are taking action, they will be caught within a day.”

Adding to the investigation, Amritsar Commissioner GPS Bhullar suggested potential involvement from Pakistan’s ISI in the incident:

“We got information at 2 am and rushed to the spot right away. A forensic team was called… We checked the CCTV and spoke to the nearby people. The thing is that Pakistan’s ISI lures our youth into creating disturbances in Punjab.”

He issued a stern warning to the youth, urging them to avoid involvement in such acts:

“I warn the youth not to ruin their lives… We will catch the culprits soon.”

Authorities continue to investigate, with police efforts focused on tracking down the identified suspects.
