Amritsar Police Foil Cross-Border Smuggling Plot, Arrest ISI-Linked Operative With Arms And Fake Currency

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], April 6: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against cross-border smuggling and terror networks, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested an individual linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency near the Gharinda police station.

According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the police recovered a cache of weapons, including one Glock 9mm pistol, one .30 calibre pistol, three magazines, and ₹2.15 lakh in counterfeit currency. The consignment, reportedly sent by ISI operatives, was intended to create unrest in the region.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Gharinda police station, and further investigation is underway, DGP Yadav confirmed.

This arrest follows another recent success by the Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar earlier this week, which thwarted a potential terror attack. The unit apprehended an ISI-linked individual and recovered a hand grenade.

The accused, identified as Jaiveer Tyagi alias Jawed, is a native of Baroli village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and was currently residing in Ludhiana. According to the police, Tyagi, along with his cousin Sehlam—an ISI operative based abroad—was conspiring to target government infrastructure and carry out terror attacks across various cities to destabilize peace in Punjab.

Authorities continue to probe the wider network behind these plots as part of intensified efforts to safeguard the state from cross-border threats.
