Amitabh Bachchan, who regularly expresses his thoughts and reflections through his Tumblr blog, shared an emotional update on Saturday, revealing that he has been struggling with overwhelming feelings over the past few days. The veteran actor has been mourning deeply since the passing of his Sholay co-star Dharmendra, to whom he had paid a heartfelt tribute earlier this week.
In his latest entry, Amitabh wrote that he has been unable to shake off the “images and feelings” that have resurfaced recently. Adding to his emotional state was November 27 — the birth anniversary of his father, celebrated poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
“Images and feelings of the past days still linger and the mind and body is unresponsive to the routine of work,” he wrote. “But they keep saying that ‘the show must go on’. Whoever said this may have meant good and with some positivity, but those that suffer bear the brunt of the sadness that still remains to be filtered.”
Despite the emotional toll, Amitabh has continued filming for Kaun Banega Crorepati, where he maintains his professional commitments. He revealed that after wrapping up the day’s shoot, the KBC crew took him out for dinner at a South Indian restaurant. “Delicious food and company,” he said, but added that the sorrow remained with him. “The heart mourns… more so because none of them knew that it was Babuji’s birth anniversary… to each his own.”
Amitabh on his parents’ marriage
In earlier episodes of KBC, Amitabh had spoken about his parents’ intercommunity marriage. “My mother was from a Sikh family, and my father was from a Kayastha family in Uttar Pradesh,” he said on KBC 13. While both families initially resisted the union, they eventually agreed, and peace was restored. He also revealed that his father intentionally gave the family the surname Bachchan instead of Srivastava to break away from caste identity.
On the work front
Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in the blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin. The sci-fi spectacle also featured Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan. Amitabh’s portrayal of Ashwatthama earned widespread praise, and the film went on to collect over ₹1,000 crore worldwide, becoming one of the biggest hits of the year.
