Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s decade-long leadership, stating that India has seen more development in 10 years than in the previous 70 years combined since independence.
Addressing the virtual inauguration and foundation stone-laying ceremony for development projects worth ₹146 crore in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Shah outlined several key achievements.
He highlighted that India now has:
✅ The second-largest road network in the world
✅ The third-largest metro rail network
✅ The fourth-largest rail network
✅ 136 Vande Bharat trains in operation
✅ 97% electrification of the broad-gauge railway network
Among the newly announced projects, Shah mentioned a ₹60 crore railway overbridge on the Ahmedabad-Viramgam railway track at Sanand-Chekhla-Kadi Road, designed to ease daily commutes for locals.
He also announced:
- A ₹36.3 crore four-lane bridge over the Narmada Canal on National Highway No. 147
- A ₹45 crore flyover bridge on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway at Chharodi
Shah commended Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for completing several large-scale projects in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency under PM Modi’s guidance.
He further announced a 500-bed state-of-the-art hospital in Sanand and a 300-bed government hospital in Kalol Taluka, ensuring round-the-clock healthcare access for residents.
Shah also highlighted Gujarat’s major infrastructure achievements, including:
- The world’s largest green energy park in Kutch
- Asia’s largest green city in Dholera
- The Surat-Chennai Expressway, India’s second-longest highway
- The development of GIFT City in Ahmedabad as an international financial hub
- The launch of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train and Rapid Rail service between Bhuj and Ahmedabad
Shah emphasized that the Modi government has increased the national highway network by 60% over the past decade. He concluded by noting that today, India has 157 airports, reflecting the rapid infrastructure growth under PM Modi’s tenure.
