Ameesha Patel has found herself in the middle of a legal storm after a Moradabad court issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against her on February 16, 2026. The actress has since broken her silence, calling the allegations “false” and claiming the matter was settled years ago.
Here is the breakdown of the controversy:
The Case: What Happened in 2017?
The dispute involves a complaint filed by Pawan Verma, a Moradabad-based event organizer (owner of Dream Vision Event Company).
- The Allegation: Verma claims Ameesha was paid an advance of ₹14.50 lakh (some reports say ₹11 lakh) to perform at a wedding on November 16, 2017.
- The “No-Show”: According to the complaint, Ameesha reached Delhi but allegedly demanded an additional ₹2 lakh. When the organizers refused, she reportedly returned to Mumbai without attending the event.
- The Cheque Bounce: While the actress reportedly returned ₹10 lakh, a cheque for the remaining ₹4.50 lakh allegedly bounced, leading Verma to file for cheating and breach of trust.
Ameesha Patel’s Official Statement
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram on February 16, the actress dismissed the reports as a “public spectacle” by someone seeking attention.
“This is a very old matter in which Pawan Verma had signed a settlement deed and received the entire agreed amount. Despite this, it seems he has lodged proceedings making false allegations. My lawyers are initiating criminal proceedings of cheating against this person to expose his lies.”
The Legal Stand-off
- Previous Bail: Ameesha had appeared in the Moradabad court about two years ago and secured bail.
- Why the NBW? The court issued the warrant because she reportedly failed to comply with bail conditions and missed several subsequent hearings.
- The Deadline: The Moradabad ACJM-5 court has now directed the police to ensure her appearance by March 27, 2026. Failure to appear could lead to her arrest.
