Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 27: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will flag off the first batch of pilgrims for the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra from the Jammu base camp on July 2, confirmed Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar on Friday.
Kumar added that Tatkal registration facilities are active at five centres in Jammu, including one at Vaishnavi Dhaam. He emphasized that e-KYC and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards are mandatory for all pilgrims. RFID card centres have been set up at Lakhanpur and Samba’s Chichi Mata Temple.
“All arrangements for food and shelter have been completed. A total of 106 accommodation centres have been prepared for pilgrims,” Kumar stated.
Highlighting security measures, Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tuti said, “We have implemented a multi-tier security system from Lakhanpur to Banihal. The entire highway is monitored by CCTV cameras with facial recognition capabilities, and drones will be deployed as needed.”
Kashmir Zone IG VK Birdi added that the pilgrimage route has been divided into specific zones and sectors to ensure a smooth and secure journey. “Security drills are being conducted across the valley—at camps, roads, and interior sections—to improve coordination and response during contingencies,” he said.
The 2024 Amarnath Yatra will officially commence on July 3 and conclude on August 9, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
