AAP’s Amanatullah Khan Blames Congress, AIMIM For Party’s Defeat In Delhi Elections

New Delhi [India]: Following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) landslide victory in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Okhla’s victorious candidate, Amanatullah Khan, attributed his party’s defeat to the Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM).

Khan alleged that both parties entered the electoral battle not to win but solely to undermine AAP’s prospects. He claimed that Congress exerted all its efforts just to ensure AAP’s defeat.

“BJP has benefitted from Congress. Congress and AIMIM did not fight to win, they only wanted to defeat AAP. They have a very crucial role in the defeat of AAP…Congress put all its strength to defeat AAP,” Khan told ANI on Sunday.

Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech after BJP’s victory, Khan urged the PM to focus on governance and work for all communities without discrimination.

“BJP has emerged victorious, so now they should work with a positive approach and continue the work we have done. They must work for every community—Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and Dalits—without indulging in selective policies of pick and choose,” he stated.

The BJP secured a sweeping victory, unseating key AAP leaders, including party chief Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi, Manish Sisodia from Jangpura, Saurabh Bhardwaj from Greater Kailash, and Satyendar Jain from Shakur Basti.

Atishi was the sole victorious candidate for AAP, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by over 3,500 votes.

BJP clinched 48 seats in a historic mandate, marking its return to power in the national capital after 27 years. AAP managed to win 22 seats, while the Congress once again failed to secure a single seat—its third consecutive electoral setback in Delhi.

This outcome comes months after the BJP-led coalition’s sweeping victory in Maharashtra and the party’s triumph in Haryana, further solidifying its dominance in national politics.

The counting of votes began on Saturday morning after polling took place on February 5.
