Actor Allu Arjun and his security team have been named among the 23 accused in the chargesheet filed in connection with the tragic stampede that occurred during the premiere of Pushpa 2 at Chikkadpally’s Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad in December 2024.
According to reports, the Hyderabad Police submitted the chargesheet recently, identifying the theatre management as the prime accused, while Allu Arjun has been listed as Accused No. 11. Investigators stated that the theatre authorities failed to ensure adequate crowd management and safety arrangements, leading to the unfortunate incident.
What Happened?
During the premiere event, thousands of fans gathered outside the theatre to get a glimpse of Allu Arjun. The overwhelming crowd pressure led to a stampede, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old woman and injuries to her eight-year-old son.
Following the incident, the police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre operators based on a complaint filed by the deceased woman’s family.
Allu Arjun was subsequently arrested on December 13, 2024, but was released the next day after the Telangana High Court granted interim bail, which was later converted to regular bail. The actor and the Pushpa film team later extended financial assistance to the victim’s family, while the Telangana government also announced compensation.
The chargesheet highlights serious lapses in crowd control and event management, placing primary accountability on the theatre administration while also holding other involved parties responsible.
