Hyderabad (Telangana) [India]: Telugu film star Allu Arjun was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Friday in connection with the tragic stampede at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on December 4, which led to the death of a woman and injuries to her son.
Speaking on the development, Advocate Suresh Babu confirmed, “The court has sent him to 14-day remand.” Allu Arjun’s lawyer argued in court that the actor had no knowledge or intention to commit any offences. Advocate Rajesh elaborated, stating, “His lawyer argued that the alleged offences mentioned in the FIR do not apply to the accused.”
The incident occurred during the premiere of Allu Arjun’s much-anticipated film Pushpa 2: The Rule. Fans surged into the theatre following the actor’s arrival, leading to a chaotic stampede. The victim, 35-year-old Revathi, succumbed to injuries sustained in the commotion, while her son Shreethej was hospitalized.
Earlier in the day, Allu Arjun was brought to the Chikkadpally police station for questioning. His family members, including his father Allu Aravind, brother Allu Sirish, and father-in-law Kancharla Chandrasekhar Reddy, were present during the proceedings.
The tragic incident shocked the public, with many questioning the management of the event. The police have filed a case at the Chikkadpally police station, citing improper crowd control measures as a significant factor. In addition to Allu Arjun, three other individuals connected to the event have also been arrested.
The case has sparked widespread concern over safety at large public gatherings and the accountability of event organizers and celebrities.
