Washington [US], December 5: Alia Bhatt’s highly anticipated action thriller Jigra is all set to premiere on Netflix after its theatrical release in October. Netflix India revealed the official streaming date with a striking poster of the film, accompanied by the caption, “Phoolon aur taaron ne kaha hai, ulti ginti shuru karlo” (stars emoticon), hinting at the suspenseful and thrilling nature of the movie.
Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra marks Bhatt’s solo release for 2024. The film, which also stars Vedang Raina, Manoj Pahwa, and Vivek Gomber in supporting roles, will be available for streaming starting December 6, 2024.
The movie follows the story of Satya Anand (Alia Bhatt), a devoted sister who embarks on a dangerous journey to rescue her brother, Ankur Anand (Vedang Raina). Jigra delves into themes of family, sacrifice, and determination, promising a gripping narrative with high stakes.
Produced under the banner of Dharma Productions, with Viacom18 Studios and Eternal Sunshine Productions presenting it, the film’s script was co-written by Debashish Irengbam and Vasan Bala. A key highlight of the movie is the recreation of the iconic song Phoolon Ka Taaro Ka, which features Vedang Raina’s vocal performance, adding both a nostalgic and contemporary touch.
Despite facing tough competition at the box office during its initial run, with the RajKummar Rao and Triptii Dimri-starrer Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video performing stronger, Jigra struggled to make a significant impact. Reports suggest that the film had one of the lowest openings in Alia Bhatt’s career, drawing comparisons to her 2014 film Highway, which also underperformed despite critical acclaim.
