Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 27: Alia Bhatt turned heads and stirred nostalgia at the special screening of Umrao Jaan, wearing a stunning saree look inspired by Rekha’s timeless appearance in Yash Chopra’s 1981 classic Silsila.
Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Alia donned a soft pink saree paired with feather earrings, minimal accessories, and dewy makeup. Her open hair and serene expression mirrored Rekha’s portrayal of Chandni, winning her applause from fashion watchers and fans alike.
The Raazi star posed for photographers at the event, held to celebrate the restored version of Umrao Jaan, another legendary Rekha film set for theatrical re-release this Friday. The restoration was led by the National Film Development Corporation and the National Film Archive of India.
Adding to the buzz, Rhea Kapoor posted side-by-side photos of Rekha and Alia on Instagram Stories, confirming the homage. Silsila, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, and Rekha, is remembered for its evocative music, complex romance, and Rekha’s ethereal style, which continues to inspire decades later.
