Ali Fazal And Sonali Bendre Begin Shooting Web Series On Infamous Ranga-Billa Case In Delhi

Mumbai, April 18 – Acclaimed actors Ali Fazal and Sonali Bendre have commenced shooting for their upcoming web series directed by Prosit Roy, best known for Paatal Lok. The series, currently filming in Delhi, is reportedly inspired by the 1978 Ranga-Billa murder case—one of the most chilling and high-profile crimes in India’s history.

While the makers have not officially confirmed the storyline, a press note hints that the series will take an investigative approach, chronicling the events surrounding the kidnapping and brutal murder of siblings Geeta and Sanjay Chopra. The crime was committed by Kuljeet Singh (Ranga) and Jasbir Singh (Billa), who had initially planned to steal a car but instead abducted the children when they found them inside.

The shocking nature of the case sparked nationwide outrage and became a pivotal moment in India’s criminal justice history, pushing for stricter laws around child safety and kidnapping.

“The team has been researching the case in detail for months now. The show will focus on the aftermath and the psychological and social impact the crime had on Delhi,” the press note stated.

This marks one of the first-ever scripted adaptations of the Ranga-Billa case, with filming currently underway in various locations across the capital. The creators have emphasized that the series will be handled with sensitivity and depth, aiming to reflect how the case left an indelible scar on the nation.
