Al Pacino Opens Up About How Fatherhood Inspires His Acting: “Kids Are Geniuses”

Washington DC [US], June 15: Legendary actor Al Pacino, 84, recently reflected on how being a father to four children—Julie Marie (35), twins Anton and Olivia (24), and Roman (2)—has profoundly influenced his work, both creatively and personally, according to E! News.

“A lot of my work had a little improvement because of them,” said the Oscar-winning actor, noting that his children have brought fresh energy, perspective, and purpose into his career.

A Daughter’s Influence on an Oscar-Winning Role

Pacino specifically recalled how his oldest daughter Julie helped shape his iconic role as a blind man in Scent of a Woman (1992), the performance that earned him his Academy Award.

“I said to my daughter, ‘Hey, Julie, do a blind person for me.’ She did it without hesitation, and I thought, ‘Wow, kids are geniuses,'” he shared.

Julie was only three at the time, yet her uninhibited and instinctive portrayal of blindness inspired Pacino’s own approach to the role.

A Renewed Purpose Through Roman, 2

Al also spoke emotionally about his youngest son, Roman, whom he shares with Noor Alfallah.

“I want to be around for this child. And I hope I am,” he said. “I hope I stay healthy and he knows who his dad is.”

Despite the generational gap, Pacino says his bond with Roman is rich and rewarding—even through video calls.

“Everything he does is real and interesting. I play the harmonica with him during video calls—we’ve made a connection. It’s fun,” he added.

Finding Joy in Acting Again with The Ritual

Pacino’s most recent project, The Ritual, now playing in theatres, appears to have reignited his love for acting.

“I loved it. It was a privilege to have this opportunity. It’s a struggle doing films—but it’s great when you’re enjoying the work.”

He emphasized that looking forward to going to work makes all the difference.

With over five decades in Hollywood, Al Pacino continues to find new meaning in both his craft and fatherhood, proving that passion—and parenting—can evolve at any age.

The Ritual is currently playing in theatres nationwide.
