Mumbai: Ajay Devgn-starrer ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, the much-awaited sequel to the 2012 comedy hit, has had its theatrical release date postponed from July 25 to August 1, 2025. The makers announced the change with a new poster that read, “The laughter riot just got a new date.”
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the update via Instagram, calling it a “wise decision”, likely to avoid clashes at the box office. The film, backed by Jio Studios and co-produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande, promises a laughter-packed ride with a fresh storyline set far from Punjab — this time in Scotland.
Trailer Teases Chaos in Kilts
The recently released trailer, running nearly 3 minutes, sets the tone for an uproarious sequel. It opens with nostalgic flashes from the first film, and then catapults the plot into a foreign land where Jassi (Ajay Devgn) and his love interest, played by Mrunal Thakur, pose as the Sikh parents of a young girl (Roshni Walia) to help her marry the man of her dreams.
But trouble brews when they meet the groom’s father, a fierce Sardaar with an arsenal of guns and battalion of bodyguards, played hilariously by Ravi Kishan. What follows is a chaotic blend of mistaken identities, cultural confusion, and high-octane Punjabi comedy.
A Star-Studded Supporting Cast
The film boasts a stellar ensemble including:
- Sanjay Mishra
- Neeru Bajwa
- Chunky Panday
- Kubbra Sait
- Deepak Dobriyal
- Vindu Dara Singh, who returns with cracking one-liners
- Sharat Saxena and Sahil Mehta
- A nostalgic appearance by the late Mukul Dev, whose role revives fond memories from the original
Behind the Scenes
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ carries forward the original’s blend of action, emotion, and slapstick humour, but with a cross-cultural twist. Mrunal Thakur surprises fans with her flawless Punjabi accent, while Ajay Devgn returns as the ever-bumbling but brave Jassi.
Fans React to Delay
While the trailer received a warm response, the shift in release date sparked questions among fans, with many commenting “why delay?” on Instagram posts. However, industry insiders speculate the move is aimed at giving the film a clear box-office window and better global reach.
Recap: Son of Sardaar (2012)
The original film saw Devgn in a homecoming story gone wrong in Punjab, locked in a comical feud with Sanjay Dutt’s character. It was loved for its peppy music, colorful visuals, and Desi charm.
**‘Son of Sardaar 2’ now hits theatres worldwide on August 1, 2025 — a week later, but promising double the madness.
