Mumbai, Maharashtra: At the trailer launch event for the upcoming film Karate Kid: Legends, actor Ajay Devgn made headlines not just for his role in the movie but also for his strong words of appreciation for the Indian armed forces and Prime Minister Narendra Modi following Operation Sindoor, India’s recent military offensive targeting terror camps across the border.
Speaking at the event alongside his son Yug Devgn, Ajay Devgn stated:
“I don’t even need to say that. Nobody wants war, but when there’s no choice left, then… there’s no choice left. I salute the armed forces, the PM, and the government. They had to do what they did, and they did it great. Thank you.”
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was a retaliatory strike in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of several civilians, including Indian and Nepali nationals. The Indian strikes targeted terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK) and led to the elimination of over 100 terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Following the operation, India also suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960, a major diplomatic move approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).
In his May 12 national address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that Operation Sindoor follows the path set by earlier responses such as the 2016 surgical strikes and 2019 airstrikes, declaring:
“Water and blood cannot flow together.”
He further asserted that talks with Pakistan would occur only on terrorism and the return of PoJK, which India considers illegally occupied.
Karate Kid: Legends – A Devgn Duo Debut
At the same event, Ajay Devgn also discussed his involvement in Karate Kid: Legends, in which he lends his voice to Mr. Han, originally portrayed by Jackie Chan. In a heartwarming debut, his son Yug Devgn will voice Li Fong, the lead character played by Ben Wang in the film.
This project marks Ajay Devgn’s first voiceover for an international film, while Yug’s participation is seen as a significant moment in the actor’s family and professional life.
According to the official press note, the film narrates the journey of Li Fong, a kung fu prodigy navigating life at a new school while confronting a local karate champion. Guided by mentors Han (Jackie Chan) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), Fong undergoes a transformative journey of courage, self-discovery, and growth.
Sony Pictures Entertainment India will release Karate Kid: Legends in theaters on May 30, 2025, in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
