Airstrike On Doha Marks a Dangerous New Phase In the Middle East Conflict

Since the horrific attacks of October 7th, 2023, Israel has pursued Hamas leaders with a relentless and far-reaching campaign. The Israeli military has carried out assassinations in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and even Iran. However, one country had, until now, remained off-limits: Qatar.

Qatar, which has played a vital role as a mediator, condemned the strike as “state terrorism” and a “blatant violation of all international laws and norms.” The White House, while reportedly given advance notice, quickly distanced itself from the operation, with the President stating that the attack “does not advance Israel or America’s goals.”

The strike on Doha is a game-changer. It signals that Israel is now willing to take the fight directly to a key U.S. ally and a sovereign nation in the heart of the Persian Gulf, a region already on edge.
