Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 12: In a tragic incident, an Air India flight en route to London crashed near Meghani Nagar in Ahmedabad on Thursday. The crash occurred shortly after takeoff, with the aircraft reportedly hitting the perimeter wall of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
According to early reports, the aircraft involved was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with a seating capacity of approximately 300. It is believed that around 242 passengers were on board at the time of the crash. The plane, heavily fueled for its long-haul journey to London, went down in what appears to be a densely populated residential area.
Authorities have cordoned off the entire region, and emergency services have rushed to the crash site. Smoke was seen billowing from the vicinity of the airport, raising concerns over potential casualties and damage to property.
While the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, preliminary findings suggest that the aircraft may have experienced a technical failure during ascent. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and airport officials are expected to conduct a thorough investigation.
Further details, including the status of passengers and crew, are awaited as rescue operations continue.
