Air India has announced a significant expansion of its international flight network to meet rising demand across key South and Southeast Asian routes. Starting July 7, 2025, the Tata Group-owned airline will increase flight frequencies to Bangkok, Colombo, and Kathmandu, adding over 7,000 new seats per week.
As per the official statement, the new additions include:
- A sixth daily flight between Delhi and Kathmandu, raising frequency from 35x weekly to 42x weekly.
- A second daily flight between Delhi and Colombo, doubling frequency from 7x to 14x weekly.
- A third daily flight between Mumbai and Bangkok, increasing frequency from 13x to 18x weekly.
The routes to Kathmandu and Bangkok will be served by Air India’s premium three-class configured narrow-body aircraft, featuring Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes.
“Air India’s flights to Colombo, Kathmandu, and Bangkok provide seamless one-stop connectivity to and from destinations in North America, Europe, and the Far East,” the airline emphasized.
With the expanded service, the total weekly frequencies now stand at:
- 42x to Kathmandu
- 28x to Colombo
- 46x to Bangkok
Bookings for the additional flights are now live via all Air India platforms, including its website, mobile app, ticketing offices, contact centres, and travel agencies.
This expansion aligns with the airline’s ongoing Vihaan.AI transformation programme, launched after Air India returned to Tata Sons’ ownership in 2022. As part of the five-year roadmap:
- Air India has ordered 570 new aircraft.
- Merged Vistara and AirAsia India into Air India and Air India Express, respectively.
- Opened South Asia’s largest aviation training academy.
- Plans to launch a new flying school in 2025.
- Construction of a greenfield maintenance base, slated for 2026, is underway.
- The existing fleet is undergoing complete interior refurbishment.
With more than 30,000 employees and a fleet of over 300 aircraft, Air India now connects 55 domestic and 48 international destinations across five continents, reaffirming its ambition to become a world-class global carrier.
