AICWA Urges PM Modi To Enforce Digital Blackout On Pakistani Artists’ Social Media In India

AICWA Demands Ban on Pakistani Artists’ Social Media in India, Calls It ‘Insult to Martyrs’

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has written a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a nationwide digital blackout of all Pakistani artists and media channels. The move follows the reappearance of Instagram accounts of several Pakistani actors, including Mawra Hocane and Yumna Zaidi, which had earlier been restricted in India following the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

AICWA’s Strong Objection

In its letter, AICWA stated:

“It is deeply concerning and absolutely unacceptable that social media accounts of Pakistani artists like Mawra Hocane, Yumna Zaidi, and several Pakistan-based channels are once again visible in India. This is not merely a digital appearance — it is a direct insult to the sacrifice of our martyred soldiers and an emotional assault on every Indian who lost a loved one in terror attacks perpetrated by Pakistan.”

Recalling multiple Pakistan-backed terror attacks including 26/11 Mumbai, Pulwama, Uri, and Pahalgam, the letter further added:

“Let the nation not forget — Pakistan was, is, and will remain a terrorist nation.”

Key Demands Made by AICWA

The association urged the central government to take immediate action through the following steps:

  1. Enforce a complete digital blackout of all Pakistani social media accounts and media platforms in India.
  2. Ban all collaborations with Pakistani citizens in Indian media, OTT platforms, music, and advertising.
  3. Declare a permanent cultural disconnect from Pakistan, honoring the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers and terror victims.

Previous Controversies

This isn’t AICWA’s first confrontation with the issue. Just weeks earlier, the group demanded action against actor Diljit Dosanjh after Pakistani actress Hania Aamir was cast in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. The association demanded the suspension of Dosanjh’s social media accounts and removal of all his content from digital platforms like YouTube and Spotify.

AICWA has long maintained a zero-tolerance policy regarding cultural exchange with Pakistan, especially in the wake of terror incidents.

As public reactions pour in across social media, the government is yet to issue an official response to the demands outlined in the letter.
