AI Sketch And An Omelette: How Gwalior Police Solved A “Blind” Murder Case

GWALIOR – In a remarkable blend of traditional detective work and cutting-edge technology, the Madhya Pradesh police have cracked a brutal murder case that had left investigators with no witnesses and an unrecognizable victim. The breakthrough came through an unlikely combination: a small piece of an omelette, a UPI transaction, and AI-powered facial reconstruction.

The victim’s body was discovered on December 29, 2025, in a remote forest area near Narayan Vihar Colony. Her face had been pulverized with a heavy rock, a common tactic used by criminals to prevent identification and stall “blind” investigations.

The Three-Pronged Investigation

1. AI Facial Reconstruction

With the victim’s face nearly destroyed, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dharmvir Singh turned to Artificial Intelligence. Forensic experts used AI “facial re-construction” technology to analyze the woman’s bone structure and develop a digital sketch of how she looked in life.

  • The Breakthrough: The sketch was circulated across districts and social media. When it reached Tikamgarh, police there were able to coordinate and identify the woman as Sangeeta Pal (also referred to locally as Kalloo).

2. The Omelette Clue

During a meticulous sweep of the crime scene, Sub-Inspector Sonam Raghuvanshi found a small, fresh piece of an omelette in the pocket of the victim’s jacket.

  • The Radius Search: Police theorized the victim had eaten shortly before her death. They mapped every egg stall within a 200-meter radius.
  • The Witness: A vendor recognized the AI-generated sketch and recalled serving an omelette to the woman and two men just hours before the body was found.

3. The Digital Trail (UPI & CCTV)

The food stall vendor provided the most critical lead: the men had paid for the meal using a UPI mobile payment.

  • Tracking the Accused: By tracing the transaction ID and reviewing nearby CCTV footage, police identified the primary suspect as Sachin Sen, a 26-year-old resident of Gwalior.
  • The Arrest: Sen was apprehended at Gwalior Railway Station near Platform No. 4 on Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026.

Motive: A Week of Resentment

Investigations revealed that Sangeeta had left her husband and had been living with Sachin Sen for about a week. Sen reportedly confessed to the murder, citing “resentment” and unfounded suspicions regarding Sangeeta’s fidelity. He lured her into the forest under the guise of a walk before committing the brutal act.
