The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) in Ahmedabad has built a new integrated cargo terminal. This would allow it to handle up to 200,000 tonnes of cargo a year. This is a big step up from the old arrangement, which could only handle 50,000 tonnes a year.
The new terminal is more than 20,000 square meters big and is meant to make moving cargo more reliable and efficient. It will service Ahmedabad and the surrounding territories, including important industrial hubs in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.
The facility has cutting-edge technology to make sure that activities run smoothly and safely. It has full CCTV surveillance, regulated access, and strong screening mechanisms. The terminal also has new digital processes like automated number plate identification at truck gates, handheld terminal operations, and barcode tracking. These give everyone in the supply chain real-time visibility.
The terminal has a separate cold-chain zone to keep perishable items safe as it handles a wide range of goods. Other modern features, such as high dock numbers, ball transfer decks, and automated equipment, are meant to make things run more smoothly, especially during busy times.
The port can handle a wide range of cargo, such as e-commerce, auto parts, pharmaceuticals, jewels, and perishable goods. This is because Gujarat has a diverse industrial base. Its top overseas exports include engineering goods, clothing, and chemicals. The facility is also ready to handle new industries and high-value cargo, like temperature-controlled packages, electronic parts, big equipment, and even live animals.
The SVPI Airport’s mission is to help the state’s economy flourish and set new benchmarks for supply chain technologies in the area. This new, state-of-the-art terminal fits in with that purpose.
