Ahmedabad Plane Crash: PM Modi Visits Crash Site, Meets Injured Survivors

Ahmedabad | June 13, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ahmedabad on Friday, a day after the devastating Air India plane crash that claimed the lives of at least 260 people. The Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed into a residential area shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, en route to London Gatwick.

During his visit, PM Modi conducted an on-site assessment of the wreckage zone in Meghaninagar, where the plane had crashed into the hostel complex of BJ Medical College, causing significant destruction and civilian casualties. He was accompanied by senior officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Gujarat government.

PM Modi also visited Civil Hospital, Asarwa, where many of the injured passengers and medical students are undergoing treatment. He interacted with survivors and medical teams, assuring all necessary support for recovery and relief.

“Every possible measure will be taken to support the families of the victims and those injured. The entire nation stands with Ahmedabad in this hour of grief,” PM Modi reportedly told hospital officials.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is currently conducting a probe into the cause of the crash. Meanwhile, the Tata Group, which owns Air India, has announced ₹1 crore compensation for families of the deceased and full medical support for the injured.
