Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India] : In the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed Para on Monday emphasized that delivering justice must take priority over initiating any talks with Pakistan.
Ahead of a special session of the J&K legislative assembly convened to discuss the attack, Para firmly stated, “More importantly, justice should be done,” when asked about the prospect of dialogue with Pakistan.
Condemning the attack, Para described it as a “communal act” designed to create divisions among Kashmiris. “I think there’s a strong dissent in Kashmir against this act of violence for the first time in the last 30 years,” he said. “They (terrorists) are trying to break us, but the people of Kashmir stand with the nation. Those who died in this attack are our martyrs, and we are with the country in this situation.”
In a separate statement, BJP leader Shagun Parihar accused Pakistan of reducing its political agenda to targeting a particular community in India. “Our Prime Minister is capable enough to give them a befitting reply,” Parihar asserted.
Meanwhile, J&K Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary introduced a resolution in the legislative assembly condemning the Pahalgam terror attack and endorsing the diplomatic measures taken by the Union Government, following the Cabinet Committee on Security’s directives.
The terror strike at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, marks one of the deadliest attacks in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF personnel. India has since taken stern diplomatic actions against Pakistan, intensifying its efforts to combat cross-border terrorism.
