Adnan Sami, known for his soulful collaborations with Lata Mangeshkar on songs like Shayad Yahi To Pyaar Hai and Teri Yaad, recently opened up about his deep bond with the iconic singer in an interview with Bollywood Bubble.
The musician recounted an emotional moment from his personal life when his father, suffering from terminal pancreatic cancer, was in his final days in Mumbai. Feeling helpless and wanting to lift his father’s spirits, Adnan reached out to Lata Mangeshkar, who had known his father from years ago.
“I told her he’s in this condition, and I would love for you to talk to him; it will cheer him up,” Adnan shared.
“I gave the phone to him and said, ‘Baba, it’s Lata ji.’ His face lit up. He told her he’d been listening to her since childhood. His favourite was Dheere Se Aaja, and she sang it to him on the call. Tears rolled down his face—he was at peace.”
This tender moment, Adnan said, encapsulated the kind of person Lata ji was — warm, generous, and deeply connected to her admirers.
Beyond music, Lata Mangeshkar also had a surprising creative hobby: photography and photo editing. Adnan revealed how she lovingly edited pictures of his newborn daughter when she was born in Germany.
“I would send her photos of my daughter, and she would zoom in, crop, colour-correct, and send them back. She had an eye for detail. She found joy in it. She was very special,” he said.
