New Delhi [India]: Popular Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan, known for his performance in Marco, has announced his decision to resign as the Treasurer of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), citing overwhelming work commitments and mental health concerns.
Mukundan’s Instagram Announcement
In a heartfelt note shared on his Instagram account, Mukundan explained his reasons for stepping down.
“After much thought and reflection, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my role as the Treasurer of AMMA,” he wrote.
The actor revealed that balancing his professional commitments—particularly his ongoing projects such as Marco—and his responsibilities with AMMA had become overwhelming, affecting his mental health.
“I have truly enjoyed my time in this position, and it has been an exciting and rewarding experience. However, in recent months, the increasing demands of my work have significantly impacted my mental health. Balancing these responsibilities, along with the pressures of my professional life, has become overwhelming,” he noted.
Mukundan assured his continued support to AMMA until a suitable replacement is found, ensuring a smooth transition.
Challenges Within AMMA
This announcement follows a period of turbulence within AMMA. In August 2024, the organization faced widespread criticism after the resignation of its 17-member executive committee, led by President Mohanlal, amid allegations of sexual harassment within the Malayalam film industry. These allegations surfaced in the Justice K Hema Committee report, which detailed the working conditions of women in the industry.
