Actor Manoj Kumar’s Mortal Remains Brought Home For Final Farewell

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 5 – The Indian film industry bid a heartfelt farewell to one of its most revered legends, Manoj Kumar, whose mortal remains were brought to his Mumbai residence for family and close friends to pay their final respects.

The ambulance carrying the iconic actor’s body from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital was adorned with garlands and flowers, a tribute befitting a superstar who redefined patriotic cinema in India.

Affectionately known as “Bharat Kumar” for his stirring portrayals in patriotic films, Manoj Kumar passed away on April 4, 2025, at the age of 87, marking the end of a glorious era in Indian cinema.

His final rites are scheduled to take place today, April 5, 2025, at 11:30 am at Pawan Hans in Vile Parle, Mumbai, as confirmed by his son, Kunal Goswami.

Born Harikrishan Goswami on July 24, 1937, in Abbottabad (now in Pakistan), Kumar rose to become a symbol of national pride through his unforgettable performances in classics like Shaheed (1965), Upkar (1967), Purab Aur Paschim (1970), and Kranti (1981).

Beyond acting, he carved a successful path as a director and producer. His directorial debut Upkar won the National Film Award for Second Best Feature Film, and his subsequent ventures like Purab Aur Paschim and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974) became milestones in Indian cinema.

In recognition of his immense contributions, Kumar was honored with the Padma Shri in 1992 and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.

Tributes have been pouring in from all corners of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered him as an “icon of Indian cinema” who instilled national pride through his powerful storytelling.

President Droupadi Murmu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and numerous other political and film personalities also paid homage, reflecting on his unparalleled legacy and unwavering dedication to patriotic cinema.

As the nation bids goodbye to “Bharat Kumar,” his legacy will continue to inspire generations of filmmakers, actors, and patriots.
