Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime suspect in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi while they were on their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has petitioned for bail. This will lead to a very crucial legal battle. The appeal, which her lawyer filed, alleges that the police’s 790-page charge sheet includes “flaws,” which adds new information to the high-profile case.
The Sohra sub-division’s first-class court magistrate has set the hearing for September 17. Tushar Chandra, the Additional Public Prosecutor, said that the petition was sent in on Friday. But the prosecution asked the court for more time to thoroughly pore over the case files before answering.
It is believed that Sonam Raghuvanshi and her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, planned the murder of industrialist Raja Raghuvanshi, who lived in Indore. Police allege that three hired killers—Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—did the crime in a parking area far away from Weisawdong in Sohra. Reports suggest that the couple was on their honeymoon in the state when the murder plan happened.
In May, when Raja and Sonam were reported missing, the situation attracted a lot of attention around the country, which led to a big search. Even though Raja’s body was found, a later investigation proved that someone had planned to kill him. Later, Sonam turned himself in to the police in Uttar Pradesh. In the meantime, authorities in Meghalaya were able to catch the other suspect.
The police have told Sonam, her boyfriend Raj, and the three hitmen what they are being charged with. The court case is likely to get more heated now that the defense is disputing the police’s evidence and the prosecution is getting ready to contest the bail request.
