New Delhi (India), January 23: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Thursday strongly criticized the Delhi Police and the BJP, accusing them of conducting raids on AAP workers’ homes without prior notice or an FIR. His remarks came in support of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s earlier allegations against the BJP.
“These are not mere allegations. The police are raiding our workers’ homes at 10 pm. On what grounds are they claiming that ‘suspicious people’ are campaigning? Do the police have the authority to raid someone’s home at night without notice, summons, or an FIR?” Singh questioned.
He also raised concerns about the Election Commission’s inaction on the matter. “All of this is happening under the Election Commission’s nose. We requested a meeting with them three days ago, but have not been granted one. Despite our complaints, no action is being taken. Early on, some complaints were addressed, but now there’s nothing. How can these elections be considered fair?” Singh added.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi wrote to the Election Officer of Delhi, alleging that the Delhi Police was attempting to dismiss a complaint against BJP workers who allegedly intimidated AAP volunteers on January 21 and 22. In her letter, CM Atishi demanded the transfer of certain police officials who, she claimed, were pressuring AAP volunteers to make false statements denying any intimidation or violence.
“I filed a complaint about the intimidation of AAP volunteers by BJP workers on January 21 and 22. Instead of investigating, I learned that police officials, including SHO Dharamveer, Inspector Sushil Sharma, and Constable Jai Bhagwan, have been contacting our volunteers. They are pressuring them to sign false statements claiming no violence occurred,” Atishi wrote in the letter.
The letter further detailed how the investigating officers allegedly dictated false statements to volunteers, asking them to deny any threats or violence. When the volunteers objected, their statements were reportedly torn up. Atishi has called for the transfer of the accused officers due to suspicions of collusion with the BJP.
