New Delhi [India], July 19: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond publicly to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated assertions that he played a decisive role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan by leveraging trade threats.
In a post on social media platform X, AAP criticized the Prime Minister’s silence despite Trump’s continued remarks.
“Prime Minister, now break your silence. PM Modi’s friend and U.S. President Donald Trump has said that five jets were shot down during the India-Pakistan conflict,” AAP wrote.
“Trump has now claimed for the 24th time that he facilitated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan by threatening to stop trade. He is repeatedly hinting that Prime Minister Modi compromised India’s dignity to avoid trade loss. Yet, not a single word has come from the man who boasts of a 56-inch chest,” the post added.
The reaction follows fresh comments by Trump, who once again claimed credit for halting a potential nuclear escalation between India and Pakistan. Speaking at an event, Trump said:
“India and Pakistan were going at it… Five jets were shot down. These are two serious nuclear countries… and it was getting bigger and bigger. We got it solved through trade.”
He reiterated that his administration used trade negotiations as leverage, reportedly telling both nations, “We are not going to talk trade unless you settle this.”
Trump made similar remarks earlier this week during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, claiming he prevented a nuclear war and “solved a big problem” by using diplomatic pressure.
Despite these repeated statements, no official clarification or rebuttal has been issued by the Indian government, prompting political opposition and critics to question the Prime Minister’s diplomatic stance.
