New Delhi [India], January 9: AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has announced that he will raise the issue of alleged electoral roll fraud in the New Delhi Assembly constituency with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) at a meeting scheduled for 3 PM today.
“We will address all these concerns in our meeting with the CEC later today,” Kejriwal stated during a press conference in response to questions about the AAP’s claims of electoral roll fraud.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, and AAP MP Sanjay Singh will accompany Kejriwal to the meeting.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Atishi had requested a second appointment with the CEC on the matter, after Kejriwal accused the BJP of committing “large-scale fraud” in the electoral roll of the New Delhi constituency, where Kejriwal is contesting the upcoming assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the inclusion of Delhi’s Jat community in the Centre’s OBC list. He accused the BJP-led Central government of misleading the community by denying them OBC reservation benefits for the past 10 years.
“The Delhi government includes the Jat community in its OBC list, but the Centre does not. This means that Jat students from Delhi cannot avail themselves of reservations when applying for Delhi University admissions,” Kejriwal pointed out.
“The central government does not offer reservations to the Jat community of Delhi, which is an injustice to them,” he added.
The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with votes to be counted on February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, followed by scrutiny of nominations on January 18. Candidates may withdraw their nominations until January 20.
The AAP’s dominant performance in the 2020 Assembly elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats, has overshadowed the BJP’s relatively modest gain of only eight seats. The Congress, which had ruled Delhi for 15 years, has failed to secure any seats in the last two elections.
