AAP Stages Protest Against Congress Leader Partap Singh Bajwa Over ‘50 Bombs In Punjab’ Remark

Mohali (Punjab) [India], April 15: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers on Monday staged a protest in Mohali against Punjab Congress Leader of Opposition (LoP) and MLA Partap Singh Bajwa, following his controversial remarks in a TV interview claiming that “50 bombs have reached Punjab,” of which “18 have already exploded” and “32 remain.”

An AAP worker present at the protest said the Congress was “trying to protect Bajwa” by staging a sit-in of its own against the First Information Report (FIR) filed against the senior Congress leader.

“Congress is staging a protest claiming vendetta politics, but everyone knows Bajwa made a shocking claim on television. When Punjab Police asked him to reveal his source, he refused. That’s why an FIR was registered. Now they’re protesting to protect him,” the AAP worker said.

He further questioned the Congress’s stance:

“Congress should clarify—are they with the people of Punjab or with those who want to destabilise it? Bajwa must either come clean or apologise, or face legal action.”

Congress Denounces FIR, Terms It Political Vendetta

The Punjab Congress, however, dismissed the FIR as politically motivated. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring accused the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government of using state machinery for personal revenge.

“It was the Chief Minister’s wish—when and how to get Bajwa arrested or slap an FIR on him. This entire process reeks of political vendetta. The enthusiasm shown by the CM and the speed at which the FIR was registered raise serious questions,” said Warring.

Bajwa Stands by His Statement, Cites Security Threat

Partap Singh Bajwa defended his remarks, saying that the warning was relayed to him by a confidential source concerned about his and his family’s safety.

“My source told me that I should stay alert—because bombs have entered Punjab. 18 have exploded, and 30-32 more are yet to be used. My family has already been a victim of terrorism. I only shared what was told to me in good faith and concern,” Bajwa stated.

The controversy has sparked sharp political friction between AAP and Congress in Punjab, with both sides accusing the other of playing politics with the sensitive issue of state security.
