New Delhi [India]: AAP leader Rituraj Jha, along with other AAP volunteers, staged a protest at the ITO Flyover on Wednesday against the BJP-led Delhi government’s delay in implementing the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. The protest was marked by the display of banners demanding the fulfillment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise of transferring ₹2,500 per month to the accounts of women in Delhi.
The demonstration came a day after Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition, Atishi, accompanied by AAP MLAs and volunteers, protested against the BJP-led government over the same issue.
Rituraj Jha’s Statement
Speaking to ANI, Rituraj Jha recalled PM Modi’s announcement during a rally in Dwarka on January 30th, where he guaranteed that ₹2,500 would be credited to the accounts of mothers and sisters by March 8th, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
“The women of Delhi are eagerly waiting for this promise to be fulfilled. You may have made promises across the country that were later dismissed as jokes, but in Delhi, you made a guarantee—‘this is Modi’s guarantee’—that ₹2,500 would come on Women’s Day,” Jha asserted.
He further questioned the delay, emphasizing the urgency as March 8th approaches.
“How many meetings will you hold? What will happen to the mothers and sisters who are waiting for their ₹2,500?” he asked.
Atishi’s Remarks
During Tuesday’s gathering, LoP Atishi clarified that the event was not a protest but a “wait” for PM Modi to deliver on his promise.
“We are not protesting. We are waiting. Modi Ji said that the first installment of ₹2,500 would be credited to all women’s bank accounts in Delhi. He had said it was his guarantee. Four days are left. So we are waiting,” Atishi stated.
