AAP MLAs’ Mics Switched Off During Rs 2500 Payout Debate, Claims Atishi; BJP Hits Back

New Delhi [India]: Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, alleged on Sunday that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs were silenced and “thrown out” of the House as soon as they raised the issue of a Rs 2500 monthly payout for women. According to Atishi, their microphones were abruptly switched off by the Speaker, leading to a heated confrontation.

The Kalkaji MLA criticized the BJP for misusing tax money and failing to address the issues that matter to Delhi’s residents.
“The House runs on tax money. Lakhs of rupees are spent every day to run the House… They (BJP) only want to abuse AAP and Arvind Kejriwal and nothing else… I want to tell the BJP that the people of Delhi have elected you not to abuse but to work… As soon as we raised the issue of Rs 2500 in the House, the Speaker, BJP MLAs immediately got furious, switched off our mikes and we were thrown out…” Atishi told media.

She further accused the BJP of having no intention to fulfill the proposed Rs 2500 monthly allowance for women in Delhi.
“BJP has no intention of giving Rs 2500 per month to the Women of Delhi,” she claimed.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Delhi Minister Ashish Sood criticized the AAP government’s handling of healthcare and power infrastructure in the capital. He accused the government of focusing on constructing a “Sheesh Mahal” instead of addressing urgent needs during the pandemic.
“With every page of the CAG report, more and more scams of the AAP government are coming to light. When the people of Delhi needed oxygen, when they needed Mohalla clinics, the Delhi government was busy constructing their Sheesh Mahal,” Sood told media.

Sood also highlighted serious allegations made by the High Court and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) regarding AAP’s health initiatives.
“The High Court and the CAG have made serious allegations about their ‘mohalla clinics’ and the so-called health model. All MLAs will have a detailed discussion on this today,” he added.

Regarding the city’s power supply, Sood criticized the AAP government for years of underinvestment.
“The Delhi Government is committed to providing an uninterrupted power supply. For the last many years, the Delhi government has not spent on Delhi’s power infrastructure. The summer action plan is being reviewed… All power companies and officials are being instructed to work on their infrastructure,” he said.

The exchange of accusations has intensified the ongoing political tussle between AAP and BJP, with both parties blaming each other for failing to address Delhi’s key issues effectively.
