New Delhi [India], February 26: Amid growing rumors about Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal potentially seeking a Rajya Sabha seat, AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar has dismissed these claims, calling them “absolutely wrong.”
Addressing the media, Kakkar clarified, “Arvind Kejriwal is not going to Rajya Sabha. Media sources had earlier claimed that he would become the Chief Minister of Punjab. Now, they are suggesting that he will contest from Rajya Sabha. Both these sources are absolutely wrong. Arvind Kejriwal is the national convenor of AAP. I agree that his demand is very high, but he is not confined to any single seat.”
The speculations about Kejriwal’s possible move to Rajya Sabha started after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nominated Rajya Sabha MP Sanjiv Arora as the candidate for the Ludhiana West assembly by-election. It was then speculated that Arora’s Rajya Sabha seat might be offered to the Delhi CM.
Kejriwal Targets BJP Over Removal of Ambedkar’s Photo
Meanwhile, Kejriwal took to social media to target the BJP over the removal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s photograph from government offices. He alleged that the new BJP-led government had hurt millions of Ambedkar’s followers by removing his portrait from the Delhi Chief Minister’s office and other government buildings.
Kejriwal expressed his disappointment in a post on X, writing, “The new BJP government of Delhi removed Babasaheb’s photo and put up the photo of Prime Minister Modi. This is not right. This has hurt millions of followers of Babasaheb.” He further requested, “I have a request to BJP. You can put the photo of the Prime Minister but do not remove the photo of Babasaheb. Let his photo remain there.”
AAP Protest Outside Delhi Assembly
In response to the removal of Ambedkar’s photo, the Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest outside the Delhi Assembly. During the protest, AAP members displayed a photograph of Babasaheb Ambedkar. The protest took place on the same day that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s BJP-led government presented the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Delhi Excise Policy.
The protest escalated into heavy sloganeering, and Speaker Vijender Gupta subsequently suspended 21 AAP MLAs until February 28. He also announced the formation of a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that will consist of 12 to 14 members from both the ruling and opposition parties.
