New Delhi [India], February 7: Ahead of the vote counting for the Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai expressed confidence that the party would secure a majority of around 50 seats. During a meeting with AAP MLAs, Rai revealed that reports from candidates indicated a strong performance, with a close contest on 6-7 seats. Rai emphasized that the people of Delhi had clearly mandated AAP to form the next government.
Rai also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of attempting to orchestrate “Operation Lotus” through the use of exit polls to create psychological pressure. He claimed that BJP had been contacting AAP candidates in an effort to lure them into defecting by offering them ministerial positions and financial incentives.
Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister, supported Rai’s claims, alleging that the BJP had reached out to 16 of AAP’s candidates with offers to join their party. He also dismissed the exit poll predictions that suggested a strong showing for BJP, labeling them as “fake surveys” aimed at destabilizing AAP’s support base.
The final result will be determined after the votes are counted on February 8. AAP has won the last two Delhi Assembly elections and is hopeful of securing a third consecutive victory.
