Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh expressed confidence on Friday that the party’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, will secure a decisive victory in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi for the fourth consecutive term.
Assurances on Continuing Existing Schemes
Addressing reporters, Singh assured that the AAP government would continue all its existing welfare schemes while introducing new ones:
- Free electricity, water, education, medical treatment, bus travel for women, and pilgrimage for the elderly.
- Mahila Samman Yojana: A monthly financial aid of ₹2,100 for women.
- Sanjeevani Yojana: Free healthcare for all elderly residents.
- Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana: Monthly assistance of ₹1,800 for priests.
“Jeetega to Kejriwal”
Singh dismissed the BJP’s challenge despite its aggressive campaign strategy. “All BJP MPs and ministers have come to Delhi to fight against Kejriwal, but ‘jeetega to Kejriwal’ (the victory will belong to Kejriwal),” he said.
He highlighted the pro-Kejriwal wave in Delhi, emphasizing the public’s continued trust in AAP’s governance model.
Key Contest in New Delhi Constituency
The Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 5, will feature a key contest in the New Delhi constituency, where Arvind Kejriwal is up against:
- Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
- BJP’s Parvesh Verma, former MP and son of ex-Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma.
AAP’s Dominance in Recent Elections
The AAP has demonstrated overwhelming dominance in previous Delhi elections, securing 67 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020 out of a total of 70, leaving the BJP with three and eight seats, respectively. Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years, has not won a seat in the last two assembly elections.
Outlook
With 699 candidates contesting across 70 assembly seats, Delhi’s electoral battle is heating up. The counting of votes is set for February 8, and AAP is banking on its governance track record and new promises to ensure another sweeping victory.
