AAP Approaches ECI Over Alleged Attacks On Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi, January 24 : As Delhi prepares for the upcoming assembly elections, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding several alleged attacks on party chief Arvind Kejriwal during his election campaign. Party sources revealed the complaint was lodged on Friday, citing multiple incidents where Kejriwal was allegedly targeted.

On Thursday, Kejriwal accused opposition party members of attacking his vehicle during a public meeting in Hari Nagar. He claimed that the police allowed the opposition’s supporters to enter his meeting and launch the attack. “Today in Hari Nagar, the police allowed the opposition candidate’s men to enter my public meeting and then attacked my car. All this is happening on Amit Shah’s orders. Amit Shah has made the Delhi Police the personal army of the BJP,” Kejriwal stated on social media platform X.

The AAP leader had previously alleged an attack by BJP supporters during a campaign rally last week. In addition, Punjab Police recently withdrew its security for Kejriwal, following orders from the Election Commission of India and the Delhi Police. On Thursday, Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed that security personnel deployed from the state had been recalled.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi strongly condemned the security withdrawal, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of “playing with the life” of Kejriwal.

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting to take place on February 8. A total of 699 candidates are vying for the 70 assembly seats. The Congress, which dominated Delhi for 15 years, has seen significant setbacks in recent elections, failing to win any seats in the 2015 and 2020 polls. In contrast, AAP secured a resounding victory in both elections, winning 67 and 62 seats, respectively, while the BJP took only 3 and 8 seats.
