The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made key appointments on Wednesday, with Mukesh Ahlawat being named the Deputy Leader, Jarnail Singh as the General Secretary, and Sanjiv Jha as the Chief Whip of the party.
In a post on social media platform X, Mukesh Ahlawat expressed his gratitude to AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, State Chief Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Leader of Opposition Atishi for trusting him with this important role. Ahlawat wrote, “I thank from the bottom of my heart the National Convenor @ArvindKejriwal, State President @Saurabh_MLAgk, Leader of Opposition @AtishiAAP, and the top leadership for once again showing faith in me and giving me an important position in the party.”
In a related move, on March 21, Saurabh Bhardwaj, a former Delhi Minister and MLA, was appointed as the new Delhi Unit Chief of AAP, taking over from Gopal Rai. Bhardwaj’s primary focus will be to counter the BJP-led Delhi government and expand the party’s presence in the national capital. He stated, “Our first priority will be to expand the party organisation. Elections will come and go…”
Gopal Rai has been reassigned as State In-Charge of AAP Gujarat, while Pankaj Gupta has taken charge as the State In-Charge for AAP Goa. Additionally, Manish Sisodia will oversee the party’s activities in Punjab. On his new role in Punjab, Sisodia shared, “There has been a lot of development in Punjab after the formation of our government in the state…The AAP government will continue to work for the welfare of the people of Punjab and will ensure that every dedicated worker of the AAP feels proud to be a part of the party…”
These changes follow a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting held at Arvind Kejriwal’s residence and are part of a major reshuffle in the party leadership after AAP lost its stronghold, Delhi, to the BJP.
