AAP Allocates ₹800 Crore To Regularise 12,000 MCD Contractual Employees

New Delhi [India]: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal praised his party-led Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) for approving a provision of ₹800 crore to regularise 12,000 contractual employees.

“Great news for 12,000 temporary employees of Delhi Municipal Corporation. The Aam Aadmi Party government in the Municipal Corporation has fulfilled their years-old demand by making a provision of ₹800 crores in the budget,” Kejriwal posted on X.

“Now all these employees of the corporation will be permanent, only Aam Aadmi Party could do this. Many congratulations to all the employees and their families,” he added.

Mayor Criticizes BJP Amid MCD Session Tensions

Delhi Mayor Mahesh Kumar Khichi announced the ₹800 crore budget allocation during a press conference at the MCD House meeting, where the revised budget for 2024-25 and the budget estimates for 2025-26 were presented.

Khichi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of creating disruptions in the House, claiming they struggled to accept a Dalit mayor’s leadership.

“The BJP, unable to digest a Dalit Mayor’s leadership, turned the House into a battleground — resorting to chaos and physical altercations that left AAP councillors injured,” read a statement from AAP.

Mayor Khichi alleged that BJP councillors had deliberately stalled proceedings for two years but assured that AAP remains committed to serving the people of Delhi.

“For the past two years, the BJP has deliberately obstructed the smooth functioning of the House,” Khichi said.

Leader of the House Mukesh Goel presented the revised budget for 2024-25 and the budget estimates for 2025-26, securing their approval.

Goel also announced an increase in the budget allocation for ward development works, raising it from ₹75 lakh to ₹80 lakh per ward.
