Aamir Khan’s team has formally put an end to a number of speculations that he was involved in the talks for the Hindi version of the upcoming film Coolie, including its distribution and screen-sharing. On August 14, the highly anticipated War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, will have a big box office battle with the Rajinikanth movie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
A Cameo of Friendship, Not Work
A spokesman for Aamir Khan Productions said that neither Aamir Khan nor anyone on his team is involved in the North Indian distribution of Coolie. The statement made it clear that Khan did not approach exhibitors or distributors, such as Ajay Bijli, the head of PVR Inox, to get premium screens or a marketing deal.
“The cameo he made in the movie is just a sign of his friendship with director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth,” the statement said, putting an end to the rumors. The crew also said that Khan is quite happy with how well his other film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is doing on YouTube.
Where the rumors came from
The rumors started when a well-known entertainment website said that Khan had “unexpectedly” been engaged in the distribution plan for the Hindi version of Coolie. The article said that he had personally called PVR Inox officials to ask for a premium showing of the movie, even though he had no financial interest in it. Sun Pictures, the company that made Coolie, had already said that Pen Marudhar and Pen Studios would be in charge of distributing the movie in North India.
The box office is going to have a big fight when both Coolie and War 2 come out on the same day and have a lot of star power. Aamir Khan’s team’s explanation clears things up, letting fans and the industry focus on the movies instead of a supposed fight over screen space.
