Aamir Khan Reveals Why He Turned Down The Role In Yash Chopra’s Iconic Film ‘Darr’

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 9: Yash Chopra’s 1993 film Darr is widely regarded as a landmark in Indian cinema. It marked a significant turning point in Shah Rukh Khan’s career, with the actor portraying the iconic character of Rahul Mehra, a possessive lover. However, it turns out that Shah Rukh Khan was not the first choice for the role of the antagonist. Superstar Aamir Khan recently revealed that he was initially offered the role but chose to back out due to personal reasons.

During a press conference for the ‘Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar’ film festival in Mumbai, Aamir shared his thoughts on why he didn’t take up the role of Rahul. Speaking to renowned lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar, Aamir said, “There was a film, Darr, which I was supposed to do, but I didn’t do it. That was due to reasons other than creative ones. Even now, I feel that it was the right decision because the tone Yash Ji wanted in the film suited Shah Rukh better.”

He continued, “Looking back, I think if I had done it, the result would have been different. But I don’t regret it because the film was well-made and successful. I don’t think I could have portrayed that kind of role which Yash Ji envisioned.”

Aamir Khan also reflected on his involvement with another blockbuster, Bajrangi Bhaijaan. He recalled advising the scriptwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad to cast Salman Khan in the lead role, stating, “When I heard the script of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, my immediate reaction was that Salman would suit the role better.”

To celebrate Aamir Khan’s remarkable contribution to Indian cinema, PVR INOX announced the ‘Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar’ film festival, which will run from March 14 to March 27, coinciding with Aamir’s birthday. The festival will showcase some of Aamir’s most iconic performances on the big screen.

At the press event, Aamir Khan and Javed Akhtar reflected on their long association. Javed Akhtar shared a heartwarming memory, “Aamir worked in the first film written by me, Faryaaz, in Panchgani for Nassir Hussain. When I saw Aamir, I immediately told Nassir that he is a star and should start with a romantic film.”

The festival will be held at PVR INOX theaters across the country, allowing fans to relive Aamir Khan’s legendary cinematic moments.
