In a first-of-its-kind move, Delhi Metro commuters can now plan journeys and purchase QR-based tickets directly through the Uber app, powered by ONDC.
New Delhi [India], May 20:
In a major leap toward unified urban mobility, Uber on Monday launched Delhi Metro ticketing directly within its app, powered by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). This integration marks Uber’s first partnership with India’s public digital infrastructure, with Delhi being the first launch city and three more cities slated to go live in 2025.
“India has taken an impressive leap in building population-scale technology through its Digital Public Infrastructure like ONDC,” said Praveen Neppalli Naga, CTO, Uber. “We are thrilled to integrate with them… This brings us one step closer to our vision of being a one-stop shop for mobility needs.”
Starting today, Uber users in Delhi can plan metro trips, buy QR-code-based tickets, and access real-time transit updates, all without leaving the Uber app. The partnership aims to offer seamless multi-modal transit experiences while increasing accessibility and digital connectivity for millions of commuters.
A Tangible Step Toward Mobility Integration
The development follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 during Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s India visit, committing to leverage India’s growing digital public goods ecosystem. Today’s launch marks a milestone in that commitment, showcasing public-private synergy in the mobility sector.
“This collaboration lays the foundation for future innovations,” said Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO of ONDC. “Uber’s enablement of metro ticketing and logistics unlocks new possibilities — from seamless multimodal journeys to unifying a fragmented logistics ecosystem.”
What’s Coming Next?
Beyond metro ticketing, Uber plans to launch B2B logistics services on the ONDC network. This service will initially facilitate food deliveries, but is designed to scale to broader sectors including e-commerce, pharmacy, grocery, and healthcare logistics.
“By integrating with ONDC, Uber will be accessible to a wide ecosystem of sellers and platforms,” Uber said in a statement. “This empowers businesses of all sizes to reach more customers efficiently through a plug-and-play logistics layer.”
This move reflects ONDC’s larger mission to democratize digital commerce and mobility by enabling interoperability and reducing platform dependency — thereby giving end-users more options and better value.
Why This Matters
This first-of-its-kind integration puts public and private mobility infrastructure on a unified platform, addressing long-standing urban mobility challenges. It simplifies commuting for millions and opens up new opportunities for innovation, connectivity, and logistics efficiency in India’s rapidly urbanizing landscape.
