Delhi CM Atishi Inspects Mohalla Bus Services

New Delhi [India], December 3: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi inspected the charging stations and other services of the city’s Mohalla bus initiative on Tuesday, aimed at addressing last-mile connectivity issues in Delhi.

“Trial runs of Delhi’s unique Mohalla buses have already been conducted on two routes. Today, I am here to inspect the charging and other facilities. These buses will be on the roads of Delhi within the next two weeks, running in the city’s congested areas. Delhi has long faced transportation challenges related to last-mile connectivity, and over 2,000 Mohalla buses will operate in the city to resolve this issue,” she stated.

The Mohalla bus initiative is part of the Delhi government’s broader plan to expand this service across the city. These electric, nine-meter-long buses are designed to improve last-mile connectivity, especially in congested neighborhoods. Unlike the standard 12-meter buses currently operating in Delhi, the Mohalla buses will feature 23 seats, with six seats reserved for women.

The buses will operate on routes connecting important locations such as Munirka Village, Munirka Metro Station, Ambience Mall, DLF Mall on Nelson Mandela Road, Vasant Kunj Institutional Area, Spinal Injury Hospital, IIMC, Ber Sarai Village, and Fortis Hospital.

In August, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj and MLA Somnath Bharti launched the trial run of the Mohalla Bus service, with the first route running from Kailash Colony Metro Station to PNB Gitanjali Colony. Another route runs from Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station to Vasant Vihar Metro Station, passing by several South Campus colleges. Currently, two buses are operating on a trial basis, with more routes to be added based on commuter feedback.

The Kejriwal government aims to introduce a total of 2,180 such buses by 2025, specifically designed for areas with limited road width or high congestion, where standard buses cannot operate effectively.
