Trump Opposes US Steel Sale To Nippon Steel, Warns Of Hostage Action

US President-elect Donald Trump has strongly opposed the proposed acquisition of US Steel by Nippon Steel of Japan, calling the deal detrimental to the U.S. economy and its steel industry. Trump declared, “I am totally against the once great and powerful U.S. Steel being bought by a foreign company.”

In a post on X, Trump outlined his plans to strengthen US Steel, promising, “Through a series of Tax Incentives and Tariffs, we will make U.S. Steel Strong and Great Again, and it will happen FAST! As President, I will block this deal from happening. Buyer Beware!!!”

The proposed sale, which was announced on December 18, 2023, involves a transaction valued at over USD 14 billion. Trump’s opposition signals ongoing concerns about foreign acquisitions of major U.S. companies, particularly in strategic sectors like steel production.

Additionally, Trump took to Truth Social to issue a stern warning to Hamas regarding the ongoing hostage crisis in the Middle East, stating there will be “ALL HELL TO PAY” in the region if hostages are not released before January 20, 2025, the date he is set to assume office. He criticized previous negotiations, accusing them of lacking action, and vowed that the U.S. would take unprecedented measures against those responsible for the hostages’ captivity.

Trump also commented on the decision of outgoing President Joe Biden to pardon his son Hunter Biden, who had been convicted on charges related to gun crimes and tax violations, calling it a “miscarriage of Justice.” He compared the pardon to the treatment of those imprisoned for their role in the January 6, 2021 riots, referring to them as “J6 hostages” and condemning the prolonged imprisonment of those involved in the Capitol Hill events
