Farooq Abdullah Raises Concerns Over Safety Of Muslims, Calls For Equality

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Farooq Abdullah has expressed concerns about the safety of Muslims in India, emphasizing the need for equal treatment as per the Constitution.

Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said, “There is no doubt that Muslims are feeling unsafe. I will ask the government of India to stop that. Twenty-four crore Muslims cannot be thrown into the ocean. They should treat Muslims equally, as there is no discrimination based on religion in our Constitution.”

Referring to recent controversies surrounding religious sites, Abdullah urged the government to uphold constitutional values. “They [the BJP-led central government] should remember that if they destroy the Constitution, where will India remain?” he added.

Congress Leaders Raise Concerns Over Religious Site Disputes

Congress MP Imran Masood also voiced concerns over orders by lower courts permitting surveys at religious places. He called on the Supreme Court to intervene, warning that such actions could lead to nationwide unrest.

“The Supreme Court should take cognizance of this matter. The Places of Worship Act of 1991 is clear. The decisions being taken by lower courts could lead to anarchy. Claims about temples, mosques, or churches under such orders will create chaos,” Masood said, describing the situation as “unfortunate.”

Two Congress leaders, Alok Sharma and Priya Mishra, have also filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a directive to restrain courts across the country from entertaining pleas for surveys at religious places. The petition emphasizes strict compliance with the Places of Worship Act of 1991.
