New Delhi [India], December 2: Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh and veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma reminisced about their experiences in the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series against Australia, reflecting on India’s determination and grit in their first Test match.
The second Test of the series is set to begin on December 6.
In the first Test, India made a remarkable comeback after a series whitewash by New Zealand at home, defeating Australia by 295 runs in Perth, despite being bowled out for just 150 runs in their first innings.
Earlier on Sunday, during a warm-up match, a four-wicket haul by pacer Harshit Rana, along with strong performances from Shubman Gill, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, led India to a five-wicket win against Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.
Harbhajan shared his thoughts on facing Australia, saying, “Earlier, Australia was the number one team in world cricket, and you realize your true potential when you play against the best. It was our job to compete with them. You get to know how good you are when you play against top teams like Australia. They were a very good team, and we had to give our best every time we played them. We stayed determined and put in extra effort to win.”
Ishant Sharma echoed Harbhajan’s sentiment, emphasizing the need for extra effort when playing against a dominant team like Australia. “When you’re up against a team that is dominant in world cricket, you have to put in that extra effort,” he said. “I didn’t know much when I first played against them, but I just focused on bowling simply and doing my job.”
